Welcome to our Christmas Newsletter
HRE development has continued across a range of items, which can be summarised as follows.
TMG Import:
- Import has been further extended to include various items not previously covered, including Event exhibits and all Exhibit captions
- The only major import task remaining is to include Sources, Citations and Repositories.
Edit Capability:
- Previously, you could edit Location data, Name Styles, Person Names and Flags. This has now been extended to cover the addition/deletion of People
- This is a major advance, as it means that you can now start an HRE project from scratch, rather than being dependent on importing a TMG project – obviously you can edit any imported project
- Work is underway on completing full People edit capability and Event add/edit/delete functions.
HRE screens:
- All screens other than those in development have been converted to be multi-lingual
- We have implemented Dutch as an additional language across all screens and Help
- The Help has undergone a rigorous audit to ensure it correctly aligns with the implemented code.
HRE Presentations
We presented HRE’s development status at the TMG Down Under (Sydney) meeting in September and even roped in the attendees to perform a full test cycle on their own TMG projects. This was a worthwhile process as it exposed several internal issues within the attendees’ own TMG projects which (although strictly speaking TMG problems) are nevertheless idiosyncrasies that the import process must be able to handle.
Name Change
Our software development operates under a Company name, History Research Environment Limited, a company limited by Guarantee registered under the laws of England and Wales. However, after some discussion, it was decided that future development of the project could mean other associated software could be developed or included under this banner to carry out further tasks, so there’s been a name change. The actual software we are currently building is still “HRE”, but that now stands for History Research Engine, the program that drives the research. Other future software would still be within the History Research Environment, but would be given a different, more descriptive title.
RUG Presentation
On 9 December 2023, our team will be presenting an update report to RUG as a part of their regular meeting, detailing current progress.
